We are a family that relocated from Denmark to New Zealand in the beginning of 2005. New academic jobs for both of us, Snejina and Kenneth, after a 7 months sabbatical in New Zealand in 2004, were the main reason for our move.
After living for two years at Bucklands Beach, one of Auckland’s beautiful suburbs, we decided that it is time to try something new – enjoy the New Zealand country life style. After intensive search in a radius of 100 km, we found our piece of paradise in the end of 2006 – a farm which was 26 acres at the time, with hills, a lot of beautiful, mature trees, a house with a lot of character, and two additional self-contained buildings, namely a studio and a farm cottage. Two years later we added another 9 acres to the farm as a result of purchasing a neighboring property. Our farm activities are on top of our full-time jobs in Auckland.
We have three children – Damian, Christian and Alexia, but only 17-year old Alexia lives at home; our boys have followed the Scandinavian tradition and moved away soon after they turned 18 years of age.
Kenneth has had experience with horses in Denmark since he was a child. He has been training horses and people, starting up horses and competing, until his professional academic career absorbed all his attention for a number of years. The passion for Icelandic horses and the knowledge, skills and expertise he has accumulated over the years have resulted in the ambitious and quality-focused Neðri Bakki Icelandic Horses Stud in New Zealand. The passion got transferred to Alexia who is a very keen rider and spends a lot of time with and on the horses.
We love running our business and enjoying our Icelandics!
